The Classic Editor provides a familiar word processor-style interface for creating and editing content.
The Editor Toolbar
The toolbar at the top of the content area contains formatting controls similar to Microsoft Word or Google Docs:
- Bold / Italic / Strikethrough – Text formatting
- Bulleted List / Numbered List – Create lists
- Blockquote – Indent text as a quote
- Horizontal Line – Insert a divider
- Align Left / Center / Right – Text alignment
- Link / Unlink – Add or remove hyperlinks
- Read More – Insert a "Read More" break for archive pages
Showing More Options
Click the Toolbar Toggle button (last icon on the right of the first row) to reveal a second row with additional controls:
- Heading Dropdown – Apply heading styles (Paragraph, Heading 2, Heading 3, etc.)
- Underline
- Text Color
- Paste as Text – Strips formatting when pasting from Word or other sources
- Clear Formatting – Removes formatting from selected text
- Special Characters – Insert symbols
- Undo / Redo
Visual vs. Text Tab
- Visual – The default WYSIWYG view (What You See Is What You Get)
- Text – Shows the raw HTML code
Use the Text tab if you need to paste embed codes, troubleshoot formatting issues, or add custom HTML.
Adding Images
Click the Add Media button above the editor to open the Media Library. Select an existing image or upload a new one, set your alignment and size preferences, then click Insert into post.
Adding Links
- Highlight the text you want to link
- Click the Link button in the toolbar (or press Ctrl+K / Cmd+K)
- Paste your URL or search for an existing post/page
- Click the gear icon for additional options (open in new tab, link text)
- Click Apply (the blue arrow) or press Enter
Pasting Content from Word or Google Docs
When pasting from external applications, hidden formatting can cause issues. To paste clean text:
- Click the Paste as Text button in the toolbar (toggle it on)
- Paste your content
- Apply formatting manually using the toolbar
Alternatively, paste into the Text tab to see exactly what's being added, then switch back to Visual.
